Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay shared an important message on social media on Saturday about a “really bad” bike accident he had while cycling in Connecticut, warning viewers about the importance of wearing a helmet as he showed off his horrific bruises is facing now.
“I would like to share a very important message with all of you,” Ramsay began. “You know how much I like cycling and triathlon and Iron Man and so on. This week, unfortunately, I had a very serious accident and it has shaken me up a lot. And honestly, I'm lucky to be here.”
“Now, to those amazing trauma surgeons, doctors and nurses at the hospital that took care of me this week, they were amazing, but honestly, you have to wear a helmet,” he continued. “I don't care how short the trip is. I don't care about, you know, the fact that these helmets cost money. But they're crucial, even with kids—a short trip, they have to wear a helmet. Now I'm lucky to be standing here. It's been a brutal week and I'm getting over it.”
At this point, Ramsay cautiously lifted his chef's jacket to reveal severe bruising across much of his torso. Deep, horrible bruises.
“But I can't tell you the importance of wearing a helmet,” Ramsay said. “This weekend is massive, it's Father's Day. To new dads, old dads, and middle-aged dads, I want to wish you all a very happy Father's Day. But please, please, please wear a helmet. Because if I didn't honestly, I wouldn't be here now. Happy Father's Day!”
An important #Father's Day my message… WEAR A HELMET! I had a serious accident while riding my bike in CT this week. I am doing well and am grateful to all the doctors, nurses and staff @LMHospital who looked after me but very thankful for my helmet which saved my life. Be sure pic.twitter.com/UMjaoXGpkc

On Instagram, Ramsay offered details of his injuries: “'I'm fine and I haven't broken any bones or suffered any major injuries, but I'm kind of bruised like a purple potato.'
He also included before-and-after photos showing the damage to his helmet, supporting his desperate plea for cyclists to wear a helmet:
Social media users were delighted that Ramsay survived the ordeal – here's a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on social media platform X:

And no matter how great a driver you are, there are lousy and inattentive drivers out there!

A helmet saved me too at the age of 15.
Badly broken collarbone, cracked helmet, 2 big dents in the van, but my head was fine.
