Authorities have foiled a shocking plot to carry out a terrorist attack in Las Vegas by a 16-year-old ISIS supporter. The teenager, who has not been identified due to his age, allegedly announced his intentions to launch “lone wolf operations” against the “enemies of Allah” in a social media post on November 28 . The post included the ISIS flag, words in Arabic and a request for Dua (supplication) for victory.
Within hours of publication, the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's counterterrorism division mobilized and identified the suspect. Law enforcement executed several warrants, which led to the arrest of the suspect and the seizure of components to construct an explosive device, terrorist propaganda and self-portraits of the suspect surrounded by ISIS propaganda.
The investigation revealed that the suspect had also obtained recipes and instructions for making bombs, raising concerns about the possible seriousness of the planned attack. However, authorities have stressed that they believe this was an isolated threat and there are no indications of additional threats to the community at this time.
The suspect has been charged with terrorist threats, attempt to promote an act of terrorism, providing material support to a terrorist organization and five counts of possession of explosive components. The case will be prosecuted by the Clark County District Attorney's office in Nevada.
This incident highlights the ongoing threat of terrorism and the importance of surveillance to identify and prevent potential attacks. Authorities are asking anyone with information related to this case or any suspicious activity to contact the Southern Nevada Counterterrorism Center.
