iPhone 16 features faster charging speeds, beating Google Pixel 8

The upcoming iPhone 16 will have significantly faster charging speeds, which could alleviate a common battery life concern for many users. The new charging speeds will surpass any previous iPhone model, though they may still fall short compared to some Android counterparts. For example, the OnePlus 12, Oppo Reno 12 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Pro support faster charging speeds, with the Motorola Edge 40 Pro reaching a whopping 125W. Samsung's Galaxy S24 series also tops out at Apple with a charging speed of up to 45 W.

However, Apple's new charging speed will still be an improvement, especially when compared to Google's Pixel 8 series, which matches Apple's current maximum of 27W. It remains to be seen what Google will introduce with the Pixel 9 phones , which will launch in August, a month before Apple's new devices.

The battery sizes of the new iPhones will also influence charging capabilities. While the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have larger batteries, the iPhone 16 Plus is believed to have a smaller battery than its predecessor, the iPhone 15 Plus. This reduction in battery size, along with faster charging support, could mean the iPhone 16 Plus charges faster than the rest of the range.

The other iPhone 16 models, despite their larger batteries, will still benefit from faster charging speeds, either wired or wireless. In addition to the charging speed upgrade, the iPhone 16 range is also rumored to include different screens on some models, a wider implementation of the tetraprism camera, advanced camera lenses, more efficient OLED displays, a new thermal design for prevent overheating and an improved main camera sensor.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are reported to support 40W wired charging speeds, a significant increase from the current 27W. This could reduce the 50% charge time to just over 15 minutes, although larger batteries may increase this time slightly. Wireless charging is also expected to increase to 20W. More details are expected to be revealed before the launch of the iPhone 16 series, likely in mid-September.
