Hillary Clinton is warning world leaders that former President Donald Trump will “become an absolute authoritarian leader” if re-elected and follow through on his threat to leave NATO.
He obviously left out the part about NATO members not paying their fair share as the basis of Trump's threat. Now that it looks like Trump might be re-elected, some of these member countries have started paying their minimum two percent of GDP to NATO to justify other countries coming to their defense if the world is plunged into war .
Clinton made the warning over the weekend at the Munich Security Conference in Germany. She bluntly told America's allies that they should take the former president seriously about withdrawing from NATO, doing her best to stoke fear of impending military doom.
“We have a long fight ahead of us, and the obvious point to make about Donald Trump is take it literally and seriously,” the failed Democratic presidential candidate claimed. “He means what he says. People didn't take him literally and seriously in 2016. Now he's telling us what he's trying to do, and the people who try to wish it away, erase it, are living in a reality alternative”.

“He's going to do everything he can to become an absolute authoritarian leader if given the chance. And he's going to pull us out of NATO even though Congress passed a resolution saying he couldn't without the support from Congress because it simply won't fund our obligations,” he stated.
The former president makes it very, very clear that NATO members must pay their dues.
“Don't pay your bills; you have no protection. It's very simple,” Trump flatly declared during a rally in South Carolina.

“Clinton's comments appeared to be aimed at NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, who has said he is confident the US will “remain a strong ally and a committed ally” regardless of the outcome this November.” Fox News reported
JUST IN: This is a fake story. Hillary Clinton (@HillaryClinton) asks, “Why is Donald Trump so enamored with (of) Putin?” All Trump says is that Europe needs to invest in NATO to be strong and not just leave the bill to the US. I WILL SEE pic.twitter.com/uyq1RPjxRm

“Trump has been highly critical of NATO during the campaign in recent weeks, doubling down on his claim that member countries should not receive protection if they do not pay their share of the NATO budget,” the outlet added.
Stoltenberg has previously claimed that Trump's threat undermines NATO's security.
“The whole NATO idea is that an attack on one ally will trigger an alliance-wide response, and as long as we stand behind that message together, let's prevent any military attack on any ally,” he said last week, according to Fox News.
“Any suggestion that we don't stand up for each other, that we won't protect each other, undermines everyone's security,” Stoltenberg said.

He also noted that 18 of NATO's 31 members are suddenly on track to meet their obligation to contribute two percent of GDP to the alliance.
“European states are on track to contribute $380 billion this year, and Germany will meet its 2% pledge for the first time since the Cold War. The figures show a dramatic increase compared to 2023, when only 11 NATO allies met their 2% spending pledge,” Fox News noted.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte told allies on Saturday to resign complaining about the future of NATO in relation to the former president and urged Europe to be self-sufficient in defense.
“Stop whining and whining and whining about Trump,” he advised, according to the report CNBC.
“Whatever happens in the US… we have to be able to protect ourselves,” Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said, the outlet reported.
