Google has unveiled its latest Pixel 9 lineup, including the standard Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL, all of which have been revamped with a new design, improved hardware, and a greater emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI). The standard $799 Pixel 9, the cheapest of the bunch, has a new Tensor G4 processor, more memory, a higher-resolution ultra-large camera, a bigger battery, and a slightly larger screen.

The Pixel 9 series is a testament to Google's belief in the potential of generative AI in our phones, with AI built into the operating system in innovative ways. From AI-generated weather summaries to a new imaging app, Google's focus on AI on phones is crucial as it faces stiff competition from Apple and OpenAI, which are also focusing on in the integration of AI.

The biggest differences between the Pixel 9 and Pro models are the size options, triple camera setup, additional video features, a 42-megapixel selfie camera, and extra memory. The Pixel 9 series could be a promising step forward for those upgrading from an older Pixel phone, but whether Google will bring its new AI features to older Pixel devices could be crucial in determining how important it is really the Pixel 9 upgrade.
