How not to elect a Jew for Vice President

This week, Kamala Harris chose her running mate.

He could have chosen the popular governor of the state of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro. Shapiro has a 62% approval rating in the state, which Nate Silver ranks as the top pollster. Shapiro is charismatic, intelligent, and bridges the gap between radical social democratic politics and heterodox moderate views on education and Israel.

Instead, he chose the radical leftist candidate from the state of Minnesota who presided over the Minneapolis fire during the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots.

Interesting choice.

Shapiro seemed like the obvious choice.

But there was one overriding problem with Josh Shapiro in the Squad era: Josh Shapiro is Jewish.

And there will be no Jewish Vice President for Kamala Harris.

All this tells you a batch about Kamala Harris, both as a candidate and as a person.

As a candidate, she is a coward. She is in a commanding position within her own party, a party desperate to avoid a loss to the dreaded scourge of Donald Trump. The base is excited about her again, despite her terrible electoral history, mainly because they no longer have to feign enthusiasm for the wrecking corpse of President Joe Biden. His own approval ratings have risen from the mid-30s to the high 50s. While only 58% of black voters said they would definitely vote in July, when Biden was the nominee, 74% now say they will. Instead of trailing Trump by several points, Harris now leads him by a small margin nationally and is within the margin of error in all swing states.

Yet Harris is horrified by the pro-Hamas contingent within her own party: people chanting in solidarity with Hezbollah on campus, who proclaim their enthusiasm for the cause of a Palestinian population that, according to polling data , supports terrorism and murder by a 8. -2 margin. Harris fears a messy Democratic National Convention, with Hamas flags flying while American flags are being burned. He wanted to document his party's dyspepsia about Israel, and he couldn't have any Jews on the ticket. Because the rift in the Democratic Party isn't really about Israel: Tim Walz, its current vice chair, has nearly identical positions on Israel to Shapiro's. It comes down to one thing and one thing only: Josh Shapiro is Jewish. And a significant segment of his base does not like Jews.

This is true insensitivity.

And then there's Harris as a person.

Harris wants to present herself as a moderate. He wants to put aside his previous political positions in order to win, hoping that the media will continue to allow him to escape scrutiny. Yet when it came down to it, he chose the Minnesota Marxist—a man who has said that “one man's socialism is another man's neighborhood”—over the Pennsylvania moderates. She has not been captured by the radicals of her party. she is a radical She always was. His whole record says it. She said so herself. Walz's selection was convenient for her because she is more comfortable with Walz's extremism than with Shapiro's pseudo-moderation.

So what should Harris' selection tell us, in the end? That she is a radical, and that she is a coward. That she will always, when given the chance, side with the most extreme in her party, and that she fears them enough that she is willing to engage in the most cynical fanaticism to gain their favor. This is the type of person who should definitely not be president of the United States.
