The Supervisory Committee of the Chamber announced Friday that it is conducting an investigation into vice presidential candidate Tim Walz for his “long-standing connections with Chinese Communist Party entities and officials.”
“President James Comer has launched an investigation into Minnesota Gov. Timothy Walz, Kamala Harris' recently announced running mate, following reports detailing the governor's longtime connections to Chinese Communist Party entities and officials.” wrote the committee to X.
“Mr. Walz has visited China 30 times, served as a fellow at a Chinese institution that maintains a devotion to the CCP, and spoke alongside the president of a Chinese organization that the State Department exposed as an effort of the CCP to influence and co-opt local leaders,” the committee continued.
“FBI informants recently informed the committee that the Bureau's Foreign Influence Task Force is investigating CCP activity that is similar to China's engagement with Governor Walz,” House Oversight added.
In a separate letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, the committee requested information, documents and communications related to CCP-affiliated entities and officials related to Walz.
In the letter, Comer listed examples of CCP-related entities and officials with which Walz is associated, including the Confucius Institutes, the United States-China People's Friendship Association, and the Embassy of the Republic Popular from China in the United States.
Comer noted in his letter that the investigation is fully warranted given that the FBI's Foreign Influence Task Force is “investigating exactly the type of activity that has come to light regarding Governor Walz.”
