“The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating what involvement the White House had in negotiating and/or approving the recently announced plea deal for three terrorists who planned the devastating attacks against the United States on 9/11 of 2001,” Comer wrote. “The Committee is seeking documents and information to understand the role your Administration has played in these negotiations and the final decision to forego seeking the death penalty for three individuals charged with, among other crimes, the murder of 2,976 people “.
“On July 31, 2024, the Department of Defense (DOD) Office of the Chief Prosecutor for Military Commissions notified the families of the victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack that the officer had signed pre-trial agreements with three defendants from the United States V Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, et al. case (KSM proceedings),” he continued. “After more than a decade of pre-trial proceedings, Khalid Shaikh Mohammad, Walid Bin Attash and Mustafa al Hawsawi have allegedly agreed to plead guilty to the crimes charged, but only with the condition that the US government does not seek the death penalty as punishment for his charges. “.
Comer briefly explained what the probe hopes to discover.
“In addition to questions about the White House's role in this decision, the Committee is also concerned about the complete lack of transparency regarding the settlement. The specific terms of the pretrial agreements remain undisclosed to the public or the families of the victims. You are allowing these terrorists to avoid the death penalty, signaling to our enemies that America is reluctant to seek full justice against those who attack our nation.”
The committee is seeking “a complete, unredacted copy of the pretrial agreements entered into with the defendants,” “all documents and communications between the White House and the DOD related to the pretrial agreements,” and “all documents and communications between the White House and the DOD related to the KSM procedure,” among other documents related to the case.
Reaction on social media was mixed, with some believing the investigation was warranted, while others urged the committee to follow through with some of the other probes they have launched.
Look here, another investigation! Why not complete the current 758 investigations? Especially the Trump assassination attempt and Corey's murder?
