House GOP sets date for Mayorkas articles of impeachment

-

The House Homeland Security Committee will begin marking up articles of impeachment against Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Tuesday.

The flagging process will focus on Mayorkas' alleged “misdemeanors and misdemeanors,” the committee announced Wednesday in a statement shared with the DCNF. The committee's push to remove Biden's DHS secretary involves his handling of the southern border, which has been the center of record illegal immigration under his watch.

The Border Patrol recorded more than 2.2 million encounters with migrants illegally crossing the southern border in fiscal year 2022 and more than 2 million in fiscal year 2023. seconds to federal data.

“Over the past year, the House Homeland Security Committee conducted a comprehensive investigation into the causes, costs, and consequences of the unprecedented crisis at America's borders, held 10 hearings, released six reports totaling about 400 pages and conducted interviews with chief U.S. Border Patrol agents,” said committee chairman Rep. Mark Green (R.-Tenn.), in a statement regarding marking.

“Our thorough and fair investigation exposed Secretary Mayorkas' abuse of power and his refusal to obey the law. In November, 201 Democrats voted to refer articles of impeachment against the secretary to our committee, and then having completed the impeachment hearings earlier this month, we plan to mark up those articles next week,” Green added.

The commission recently held two hearings as part of his impeachment process against Mayorkas, where lawmakers heard testimony from Republican attorneys generallegal experts and mothers who have lost their children to fentanyl and a member of MS-13.

“After decades of congressional inaction on our broken immigration laws, Secretary Mayorkas and a bipartisan group of senators are working hard to try to find real solutions to address these challenges. Instead of working bipartisanly to fix our broken immigration laws, the majority of the House is wasting its time on baseless and senseless political attacks trying to impeach Secretary Mayorkas,” DHS said in a statement to the DCNF about the push to impeach Mayorkas.
