Home Depot co-founder says Trump's moment 'has come and gone', issues formal endorsement

-

Home Depot co-founder Ken Langone formally endorsed presidential candidate Nikki Haley this Friday on Fox News.

Appear on Fox News”your world”, praised his “approach” to politics and leadership.

“I think she's just what we need right now. I think her approach is smart. I think she's qualified. More importantly, I think the American people need that kind of leadership: statesmanlike, elegant. Think in … where we've been for the last six, seven, eight years. It's not good at all,” he said.

As for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is also running for president and with whom Haley is essentially tied, Langone said he likes him but that his polling “numbers aren't moving.”

“The writing is on the wall. On the other hand, Nikki Haley has had a substantial surge. The only thing I'm committed to is that we have to beat Joe Biden. If Joe Biden is going to be the nominee, we have to beat. We can't take this chaos anymore,” he argued.

Listen:

As for why he doesn't just support the front-runner, former President Donald Trump, like everyone else, Langone argued that his time has “come and gone.”

“What Trump put this country through in the last three months of his presidency was shameful. I think what happened on Jan. 6, all he said was 'Please go home.' . … But he sat in a room and watched it for three hours and did nothing and America deserves better than that,” he said.

The Home Depot co-founder's endorsement of Haley is just the latest.

Earlier in the week, a super PAC closely tied to billionaire conservative donor Charles Koch spent $4 million to help her.

“The money has gone toward research in early voting states and advertising in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia, according to Americans for Prosperity Action spokesman Bill Riggs. The Koch-backed political group said in late November that it would help Haley in her bid to defeat front-runner Donald Trump for the Republican nomination,” he explained. Bloomberg.

“The resources come at a critical time for Haley, who has run a lean campaign in Iowa, the first contest in the Republican nomination process. The increased money from Americans for Prosperity, along with endorsements from other figures Notable business leaders, including JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s Jamie Dimon, have given their campaign a new boost weeks before the Jan. 15 Iowa caucuses.”

That momentum has propelled her into third place, with less than three percentage points separating her from DeSantis' slim 13 percent lead, according to polling averages kept by RealClearPolitics.

According to CNN, Americans for Prosperity Action's endorsement has also inspired a donation from billionaire Art Pope.

“In an announcement first shared with CNN, North Carolina retail magnate Art Pope endorsed Haley on Tuesday, becoming the latest wealthy GOP donor to publicly support her presidential bid.” CNN notes

“Pope, who previously supported former Vice President Mike Pence's campaign, has a long association with the Koch network and said he had encouraged Americans for Prosperity Action officials to endorse it before the announcement of Tuesday”.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, normally a Democratic donor, is also supporting her campaign, though he doesn't actually want her to become president.

In a blog post published on LinkedIn, he admitted that he plans to “vote enthusiastically” for current President Joe Biden in next year's election, which begs the question of why Haley. The reason is “because Governor Haley is also the only Republican candidate other than Trump with any chance of winning the Republican nomination,” he wrote.

“If America wants to avoid another Trump presidency, it will be because Trump loses an election next year. If he has to lose, it will be against Nikki Haley in the primary or Joe Biden in the general. I have invested in the Stand for America PAC supporting Nikki Haley because I agree with Jamie Dimon's recent comments that Democrats should support Haley in the primaries and Biden in the general election,” he added.

He went on to admit that there are a lot of things about Haley that he doesn't like, including her refusal to directly condemn Trump.

“Nikki Haley has disappointed me with her inconsistency in denouncing Trump, especially after the violence on January 6th, and I disagree with a wide range of her policy views. However, the American politics is in crisis,” Hoffman wrote.

“As we fight to defend the idea of America from the threat of Trumpism, we must engage with people with whom we disagree in many areas of politics and culture. Nikki Haley would not be so good for the States United like Joe Biden, but America would survive his administration,” he added.
