Heart-stopping video shows the moment an impaired driver allegedly crashes into police

-

A New York City woman is facing serious charges after she intentionally ran over an NYPD officer on Wednesday.

Suspect Sahara Dula, 24, was driving her black Lexus on the wrong side of the road, and despite reporting marijuana, when she intentionally ran over the officer, according to the New York Post.

“I told the cop I wanted to go straight and he wasn't going to die, so I hit him,” Dula later told investigators. “I did it on purpose.”

Watch footage of the incident below:

The officer seen above was reportedly trying to stop Dula from continuing to drive in the wrong direction. But instead of listening to him, he ran over him.

“The impact fractured the officer's leg and left him with bruises all over his body, but he is expected to recover,” according to the local station. WNBC.

To Dula's credit, he stayed on the scene after hitting the officer, even though he did it while talking trash.

“Fk those cops! He wouldn't budge! F–k those cops! It's a lesson for him, and hopefully he doesn't want to be a cop anymore!” she yelled right after the incident.

She has since been charged with attempted assault in the first degree, attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, assault in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the second degree and operating a vehicle with drugs and reckless driving

Guess what happened next…

A judge gave him a break.

The Post notes that although Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Lucy Shephard asked for bail at $100,000, Judge John Zhuo Wang set bail at just $25,000. The only good news is that he still hasn't been able to afford even that light bail.

Meanwhile, the president of the Police Benevolent Association, Patrick Hendry, said on Friday that Dula should have been charged with attempted murder.

“We are happy that this person is in prison, but we do not understand why he is not charged with attempted murder,” he told reporters.

Listen:

“He tried to run over and kill a New York City police officer. He proudly admits it, but he still doesn't face the maximum penalty. This kind of leniency has led to thousands of police officers being attacked and injured Hendry added.

“We will not let this case become just another statistic. We will follow up to make sure a message is sent: If you attack and injure a New York City police officer, you will face the full force of the law,” he continued.

Many critics agree that he should face murder charges of some kind:

But law enforcement sources who spoke to the Post speculated that she was not charged with attempted murder because of the difficulty in proving she intended to kill the officer.

However, he faces up to 15 years in prison on the current set of charges, so that's not too bad.

His previous arrest record includes one from March 2022, when he “destroyed property with a metal barrier.” Unfortunately, those charges were dropped for reasons that are still unclear.

He also has an arrest record in New Hampshire, according to the Post.

“In 2020, she allegedly failed to stop at an intersection in the town of Henniker and struck another vehicle before fleeing the scene, but was quickly located,” the outlet notes. “She was also arrested on a simple assault charge after an incident at Concord Hospital in New Hampshire's capital city.”

She is also said to be a BLM activist:

During a court appearance, Dula's attorney, Patricia Wright, revealed that her client suffers from bipolar disorder, receives regular mental health treatment and takes various medications.

As for work, he runs his own company that provides mentoring services to troubled kids who are involved in drugs and gangs, ironically.

“My assertiveness, attention to detail and passion are traits that I think any employer would be happy to have,” his LinkedIn profile reads.

And in terms of education, he obviously has a criminal justice degree from New England College, ironically once again.

“As a child I wanted to learn anything related to criminal justice, I was intrigued by the criminal justice system and its responses to tragic events,” his LinkedIn profile continues. “As I got older, I became interested in all things communication, writing, media, negotiation and proper speech etiquette.”
