Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) revealed in a letter Thursday that a whistleblower told him that the US Secret Service (USSS) turned down offers from a local law enforcement partner to use technology of drones to secure the July 13 demonstration where a shooter attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
Hawley wrote in a letter sent Thursday to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, whose agency oversees the Secret Service:
According to a whistleblower, the night before the rally, the US Secret Service repeatedly refused offers from a local law enforcement partner to use drone technology to secure the rally. This means that the technology was available to USSS and could be deployed to protect the site. The Secret Service said no. The complainant also alleges that after the shooting, the USSS changed course and asked the local partner to deploy drone technology to monitor the site after the attack.
