Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) recently slammed the “Uniparty” for its “blank check” foreign policy in Ukraine and called for a focus on the “No. 1 Threat” – the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
In a speech on the Senate floor, Hawley criticized the bipartisan foreign policy establishment for its “blank check” in Ukraine, which he argued was a “proxy war” with the CCP. He argued that the foreign policy establishment’s focus on Ukraine was a distraction from the real threat posed by the CCP.
“The United States should not be in the business of funding a proxy war with the Chinese Communist Party,” Hawley said. “It should be in the business of protecting Americans from the Chinese Communist Party’s aggression.”
Hawley slammed the Uniparty for their “outdated” foreign policy, which he argued was focused on “old adversaries” instead of the “real threat” posed by the CCP. He argued that the United States should be taking a more proactive approach to confronting the CCP.
“We need a new foreign policy that focuses on the No. 1 threat to American security and prosperity: the Chinese Communist Party,” Hawley said.
Hawley argued that the United States needs to take a more aggressive stance against the CCP’s “malign” activities, such as its efforts to “exploit” the U.S. economy, its “military provocations” in the South China Sea, and its “human rights abuses” in Xinjiang.
“We must be willing to stand up to the Chinese Communist Party and its malign activities,” Hawley said. “We must be willing to take action to protect our interests and our values.”
Hawley’s comments come as the United States and China are locked in an increasingly tense confrontation over trade, technology, and human rights. The Trump administration has been taking an increasingly aggressive stance against the CCP, and Hawley’s comments suggest that the administration may be looking to take an even tougher stance in the future.
