Harris Faulkner warns media is using race to 'divide' country after Trump's NABJ interview

Fox News host Harris Faulkner said Thursday that an event in which former President Donald Trump confronted an interviewer “wasn't fair” and warned that the mainstream media was using race to “divide America.

Trump was interviewed by a panel at the National Association of Black Journalists conference that included Faulkner, ABC News reporter Rachel Scott and Semafor reporter Kadia Goba, during which he they faced each other with Scott on his first question about Trump's criticism of left-wing members of Congress and former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, and also he commented about Vice President Kamala Harris, saying she “didn't know she was black” until a few years ago. Faulkner noted that there were efforts to disinvite Trump from the event and that Scott's question derailed the panel.

“A lot of what America is focused on and a lot of what started with all that excitement and the right moments of the interviewer who was sitting directly to his left, has really surpassed the fact that we had the opportunity to talk to the president. who went into a racial firestorm yesterday,” Faulkner said of Scott's opening question to Trump. “There were journalists, activists, whatever you want to call people who let their politics show that they wanted the NABJ to rescind their bid for the 45th president of the United States to come and sit.”

Faulkner also took aim at Scott for not acknowledging that Trump survived attempted murder less than three weeks before the event and said Scott's question “set off an emotional start” to the discussion.

“I mean, it didn't take much to show the humanity, and at the time, I was so disappointed that it didn't happen,” Faulkner said. “I couldn't control it, but things started getting emotional, and you and I know that once that happens and you interview somebody, there's an agenda, and I'm glad you played a clip of that because America and the journalists in the room who, by the way, sat and listened, somewhere laughing with the president, small jokes and jokes that he made, there were also some critics in the audience, but it was expressed respectively or respectfully. rather, there was a way to get some of the energy out of that moment with that reporter.”

Faulkner also criticized the corporate media for its focus on Trump's contentious exchange with Scott at the start of the interview and his comments about Harris, warning that allowing unfair journalistic practices would further divide America.

“I can't impress upon you how much complicity, potential complicity, there is for the mainstream media to latch on to the issue of race and further divide us as a nation if we don't cry out when we don't see things being treated the way fair,” Faulkner said. “And you know what? I'm going to take some heat for that, rather, in certain journalism circles. My home is Fox News; our viewers deserve the truth, and that moment was not fair.”

Scott did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
