Greene warns that Gaetz’s ouster “will not be tolerated” by Republican voters

-

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) warned that a move to expel Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) from the House “will not be tolerated” by GOP voters.

“And a Republican-led effort to oust Matt Gaetz will absolutely not be tolerated by Republicans across the country. I can guarantee you that. Remember when 11 R’s voted against me and 10 R’s voted to impeach Pres Trump? Both the [motion to vacate] and deportation plans are wrong,” Greene wrote a long thread about Xthe platform formerly known as Twitter.

Gaetz revealed on Sunday that he plans to do so file a motion to vacate against Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) this week after the president worked with Democrats to pass a continuing resolution that would keep the government open. This comes after weeks of threats from the Florida Republican, who is also now facing some calls for his own ouster.

“I intend to introduce a motion to remove President McCarthy this week,” Gaetz said he said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” sunday

“I think we have to take the band-aid off. I think we have to move forward with new leadership that can be trusted,” he added.

McCarthy shot down Gaetz’s threat on Sunday, saying that he “will survive” and that this “is personal with Matt.”

Fox News reported that some House Republicans are trying to oust Gaetz if the Ethics Committee reports misconduct by Gaetz. A two-thirds majority would be needed to expel a member of the House, but Republicans hold only a slim majority.

CNN also reported that a Republican lawmaker said Gaetz could be ousted based on the Ethics Committee’s findings, telling the outlet that “we want him out.”

Greene said that while he agrees with Gaetz that “things have to change,” he opposes a leave motion, saying it would give “Democrats the upper hand.”

“I do not agree that a leave motion will effectively create the changes needed to solve the intentional systemic failure created by the endless annual spending packages of CR’s and big Christmas spending,” he said. wrote to X.
