GOP senators speak after acting Secret Service director presser

Republicans in Congress were unimpressed by US Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe's press conference on Friday.

During the press conference, the Secret Service's first since the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, Rowe reportedly offered few answers.

“It's clear that the American people still haven't gotten the full story,” Senator Mike Lee later complained. Fox News. “From the beginning, the people at the rally and people with cellphone footage seem more invested in stopping the shooter and figuring out what happened than the Secret Service itself. It's shocking that more officials haven't been held accountable.” .

Senator Ron Johnson agreed, telling Fox News there was “clearly a cover-up.”

“I don't think Acting Director Rowe was close because the government rarely admits to being wrong,” he said. “I suspect that Rowe knows exactly who was responsible for this massive security failure and that this is clearly a cover-up. We need a detailed investigation and transcribed interviews to uncover the truth.”

“It is obvious that this was an epic failure by the leadership of the Secret Service and DHS, whose primary responsibility was to protect President Trump at this rally,” added Senator Rick Scott. “Since the shooting, it appears we have received new information from outside sources, but nothing from the agencies investigating this failure.”

“Unless we start having daily press conferences, conspiracy and rumors will spread, and trust will be permanently lost. The American people still have unanswered questions and want to know that people are being held accountable for their admitted failures.” , the Florida Republican continued.

Senator Marsha Blackburn agreed.

“When the Secret Service fails in its mission, people die,” he told Fox News. “The tragic events that occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, were a direct result of their failure, and the agency must listen to the concerns of all whistleblowers who come forward. We will be vigilant to ensure that the internal investigation of the Secret Service give rise to real responsibility.”

Meanwhile, Sen. Josh Hawley reacted angrily to X at Rowe's insistence that Secret Service agents on patrol the day of the assassination attempt didn't know would-be killer Thomas Crooks had a gun until he started shoot:

To Rowe's credit, he at least intended to take full responsibility for the agency's failures.

“The Secret Service takes full responsibility for the tragic events of July 13. It was a mission failure,” he said. “Our agency's sole responsibility is to make sure that our proteges are never put in harm's way. At Butler we are not left behind, and I am working to make sure this failure does not happen again.”

“If the agency's mission assurance review identifies policy violations by Secret Service personnel, those individuals will be held accountable and subject to our fair and thorough disciplinary process,” he added.

Now, to be clear, the press conference wasn't entirely pointless. According to Fox News host Jesse Watters, Rowe dropped some bombshells.

“Director Ronald Rowe made a shocking admission… The former President of the United States and Republican nominee, the man Democrats and the media have been calling a clear and present danger to democracy, Hitler and a dictator, it was” “They've given you Secret Service sniper teams at their campaign rallies for the last two years,” Watters said on Fox News on Friday.Jesse Watters Primetime.”

“This means that when they tried Trump in Manhattan every day when he returned from court to Trump Tower, there were no Secret Service agents. The whole world knew about Trump's schedule and location for six weeks. In a city with thousands of windows and skyscrapers, no Secret Service snipers. That means when Trump was in the Bronx, there were no Secret Service snipers. Anyone could have climbed a tree, could have climbed a roof with a gun. What about when he went to the hold in Harlem? It's surrounded by buildings, any of which could have fired a rifle. No Secret Service snipers,” he added.

“So why, all of a sudden, after two years without Secret Service counter-snipers, are they showing up at Butler? And that was the rally where there was an attempt on his life. After the attempt assassination, the intelligence community leaked an exclusive to their friends at CNN, saying the reason they added counter-snipers to Butler was because of an Iranian threat on Trump's life,” Watters continued.

“But that makes no sense, because there's been an Iranian fatwa for Trump since he hit Soleimani. That was over four years ago. And when the feds were pressed about it, they admitted there was no information news from Iran. The secret service surrounding Trump was an illusion. We believe that these agents were in constant communication with each other. It turns out that the counterfreak team of the Secret Service and Butler never had a radio that day,” he said.
