Surveillance video from a nearby business captures the suspects rounding a corner and waiting for the deputy behind a building.
As the deputy approached, the male suspect, later identified as Eric John Nourani, 32, of San Diego, lunged at him, causing a violent struggle on the ground.
During the altercation, Nourani can be heard on body camera footage repeatedly instructing the female suspect, Jennifer Rose Dobbins, 30, of Imperial Beach, to “kill him! Kill him!” and “Keep fighting!” Dobbins, in response, is heard saying, “In the name of Jesus, I rebuke you!” while kicking the deputy multiple times as he struggled to maintain control of his firearm.
The situation escalated when Nourani attempted to wrest the deputy's service weapon from him, with Nourani yelling at Dobbins to “Get the gun!” The deputy, fighting for his life, can be heard saying, “Get him. He's stealing my gun.”
Despite the chaos, the fight continued even after the deputy shot Dobbins. It wasn't until some brave bystanders stepped in to help the deputy that the situation was brought under control.
Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco expressed his gratitude to those who intervened, stating, “I want to express my gratitude to the brave Samaritans who stepped in to help our deputy. Their selfless act made a significant difference in the outcome of this incident.”
Dobbins received medical attention at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Nourani was arrested and now faces serious charges including murder, attempted murder of a peace officer, mayhem and resisting an officer with violence.
