GLEN ROSE, Texas – A Texas safari made one dramatic turn when a giraffe at the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose unexpectedly grabbed a girl from the bed of a truck while trying to feed her.

Lindsey Merriman and her family were visiting the wildlife center on Saturday, June 1 and captured the shocking incident on video. The footage details the giraffe's unexpected interaction with the young woman. The footage has attracted widespread attention. It shows the giraffe inadvertently grabbing the girl's shirt as she approaches for food and lifting her out of the bed of the truck.

According to Merriman, the child was immediately placed in the arms of an adult after the incident. While the Fort Worth Star-Telegram identified the boy as a 2 year old girlreports indicated that no injuries occurred during the encounter.

The boy's father gave an insight into the situation, expressing his belief that the giraffe had aimed for the food in his daughter's hand, but accidentally grabbed her shirt.

Fossil Rim Wildlife Center responded to the incident, assuring the public of its immediate commitment to ensure the safety of its guests and animals. Warren Lewis, the wildlife center's head of marketing, emphasized the organization's dedication to prioritizing the well-being of all visitors while taking proactive steps to prevent similar events in the future.

In light of the incident, Fossil Rim announced a fundamental policy change, declaring that guests would no longer be able to drive around the park in truck beds.
