Hungary’s government and billionaire George Soros’ foundation have come to blows over a political election campaign and whether it is “deeply tainted by anti-Semitism”.
A spokesman for the Open Society Foundations, the organization founded by the far-left billionaire investor, criticized the “propaganda” on display after Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s government unleashed a political campaign with some billboards calling for the attention
The head of the European Commission and Soros’ son, Alexander, are the targets of the advertisements that were released on Monday.
“We don’t dance to their tunes,” read the signs presented by Alexander Soros, who chairs the foundations of the open society, and the president of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen.

The billboards are part of the Nationalist Prime Minister’s campaign for the 2024 European elections.
“George Soros and his liberal views have been a perennial target of Orban’s Fidesz party over the past decade. Soros is Jewish and his central role in Fidesz propaganda has led some critics to accuse the party of anti-Semitism, which he denies.” reported Wednesday. “Orban has said there is zero tolerance for anti-Semitism in Hungary, while repeatedly portraying Hungarian-born Soros as a puppeteer plotting to undermine his government, including by supporting mass immigration.”

The spokesman for Open Society Foundations called on Orban’s government.
“Hungarian taxpayers’ money is being used again to pay for political propaganda that is deeply tainted by anti-Semitism,” the spokesman said in response to questions from Reuters.
“This is a tactic widely used by the Hungarian government: to create a vague and imaginary foreign threat to distract voters from real domestic problems…”

Meanwhile, a Hungarian government spokesman dismissed the allegation of “anti-Semitism” in the campaign as “baseless,” according to Reuters.
After the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, Orban’s government banned a pro-Palestinian demonstration in Budapest.
“It’s never been about George Soros’ identity as a Jew. It’s about his ideology and his radical activism. It’s about his determination to get involved in politics in Hungary and other countries in Europe.” , government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs wrote in a blog post on Wednesday.
In July, Orban he swore that Hungary would show “zero tolerance” to anti-Semitism, adding that “all Jewish citizens of Hungary are under the protection of the government.”
“Orban has said Hungary is the safest country in Europe for Jews because of his government’s tough stance on illegal immigration,” Reuters noted. “In 2018, the Central European University, founded by Soros in 1991, moved most of its courses out of Hungary to Vienna after a long struggle between Soros and the Orban government.”
