President Joe Biden asked congressional Democrats in a letter to “move forward as a unified party,” but one Democrat reported an “error” in the message.
The president has continued to fight a growing chorus of calls for him to step aside and allow another Democrat to be the party's presidential nominee. In a letter on his personal letterhead sent to Democrats on Monday, Biden declared that “despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, running this race to the end and winning to Donald Trump.”
Former Nebraska senator and governor Bob Kerrey called out Biden for being “self-serving” with his complaints about critics while reacting to the letter.

“I've had extensive conversations with party leadership, elected officials, rank-and-file members, and most importantly, with Democratic voters over the last 10 days or so. I've heard people's concerns — their good-faith fears and concerns because of what's at stake in this election,” Biden wrote.
“I am not blind to them. Believe me, I know better than anyone the responsibility and burden that comes with the candidate of our party. I carried him in 2020 when the fate of our nation was at stake,” he stated.
“I also know that these concerns come from a genuine respect for my life of public service and my record as president, and I have been touched by the expressions of affection for me from so many who have known me well and have supported over the course of my public life. I have been grateful for the strong and steadfast support of so many elected Democrats in Congress and across the country, and I have drawn great strength from the resolve and determination I have seen from so many voters and supporters. of the grassroots even in the most difficult times,” Biden continued.

He went on to “clearly and unequivocally” declare that he “would not run again if I did not absolutely believe that I am the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.”
After expressing how he is the presumptive Democratic nominee “by a wide margin,” Biden explained how only three people challenged him in the Democratic primary and he won the vote of Americans who chose him as their nominee.
“Now we just say that this process didn't matter? That the voters don't have a voice?” he scolded. “It was the decision they had to make. Not the press, not the pundits, not the big donors, not any select group of individuals, however well-meaning.”
After touting his so-called accomplishments, Biden trashed his opponent and all those who support former President Donald Trump, claiming that Democrats are the ones “defending American democracy.”
Kerrey, who was a 1992 Democratic presidential candidate, denounced Biden for the tone and content of the letter.
“I read that letter,” he said Monday on “The Claman Countdown.”
“If I were a Democratic member of Congress, I would call the White House and say, 'You made a mistake.' Don't send us this letter,'” he continued. “If I ask [whether] can you defeat donald trump am i bad for democracy? It's blatantly false, it's selfish and it's not helpful.”
“I think he's decided to stay, no matter what, and we'll find out,” Kerrey added. “He said well, you can challenge me in Chicago. Well, there's no challenger in Chicago. He's got all the delegates lined up to become the nominee of the Democratic Party.”
“And again, it puts him in a position that I don't think he wants to be in. He's told people he has to run,” Kerrey said.[so] go campaign, tell people what you're going to do instead of getting angry because people are telling you not to run, questioning their patriotism when they do.”
Fox News host Jesse Watters expressed a similar sentiment, calling out Biden on “The Five” for sending what essentially looks like a bailout letter.
