“I remember receiving the letter on October 18, 2020, and at first glance it seemed natural to lay the blame at the door of the Kremlin,” said Dan Hoffman. “Remember, Vladimir Putin is in the Kremlin and he’s known for cloak and dagger espionage operations. But at the same time, there was no evidence and the letter said there was no evidence. And I just felt that we had to do the forensic investigation”.
The letter, signed by dozens of former intelligence officials, claimed that a New York Post report on emails from a laptop allegedly abandoned by Hunter Biden “has all the classic tags of a sting operation Russian information”.
“There were a lot of others who didn’t sign it,” Hoffman added. “Look, when I was at the CIA, we’d sit in Michael Morell’s office when we had a particularly difficult and challenging intelligence problem, and we’d pull out all the evidence that we had, the intelligence that we had, and then Michael would draw analytical conclusions. with some level of confidence — low, medium, or high — and take it to the White House. We didn’t have that debate on this laptop issue. We weren’t invited to debate it.”
Twitter had blocked several accounts, including that of the New York Post and the personal account of then-White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, for sharing the report on October 14, 2020, citing a policy of “materials hacked”. However, documents leaked to reporter Michael Shellenberger by Elon Musk show that the FBI contacted Twitter about potential leaks involving Hunter Biden before the New York Post report.
There are now serious concerns that intelligence officials are coordinating with the Biden campaign, thereby committing a blatant act of “election interference.”
The House Judiciary Committee and the House Intelligence Committee are now subpoenaing Secretary of State Antony Blinken for documents related to the letter, citing testimony from former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morell that Blinken ” triggered” response to the Post story.
“New testimony from Michael Morell, former deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and one of the 51 signatories to the ‘Public Statement on Hunter Biden Emails,’ revealed that Secretary of US State Antony Blinken, then a senior adviser to the Biden campaign, was the impetus for the public statement signed in October 2020 that falsely implied that the New York Post’s reporting on Hunter Biden was the product of the Russian disinformation,” the statement said. “In response, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH) have just sent a letter to Secretary Blinken demanding documents and communications related to the committees’ investigation.”
“From Morell’s testimony, it is clear that the Biden campaign played an active role in the origins of the public statement, which had the effect of helping to suppress Hunter Biden’s story and prevent citizens from -Americans to make a fully informed decision during the 2020 presidential election,” members of the House Judiciary Committee added.
“While the signers of the statement have an unquestionable right to free speech and free association, which we do not dispute, their reference to their national security credentials gave weight to the story and suggested the access to specialized information not available to other Americans,” the letter added. “This concerted effort to minimize and suppress the public dissemination of the serious allegations about the Biden family was a huge disservice to the informed participation of all American citizens in our democracy.”
