Ormond Beach, Fla. – A man, Adam McDaniel, is being hailed as a hero by Ormond Beach police for his brave intervention in thwarting an attempted carjacking involving an elderly couple and a suspect at a gas station near Interstate 95.
The incident happened at the Exxon station on US-1, just off the interstate, when the couple was parking their car. According to reports, carjacking suspect Marvette Perry took advantage of the opportunity and jumped into his vehicle.

Adam McDaniel, who was at the same gas station at the time, noticed Perry's suspicious behavior. With her 3-year-old daughter in the backseat of her own vehicle, McDaniel instinctively took action to protect her family and the pair of grandparents. He retrieved the firearm as a precaution and pointed it at Perry when she tried to flee in the couple's car.
According to police, Perry tried to flee in the couple's car while the woman was still inside, but the husband managed to grab Perry's leg, preventing him from fleeing. With McDaniel keeping his firearm trained on Perry, another bystander quickly contacted authorities.
Police body camera footage captured the timely arrival of law enforcement officers, who arrested Perry after a brief struggle, during which he resisted arrest. Adam McDaniel, in the middle of the chaotic ordeal, helped by retrieving the camera from the fallen body to ensure crucial evidence was preserved.
Reflecting on the dramatic turn of events, McDaniel commented on the unexpected conclusion to her family vacation, emphasizing the heartwarming interaction between her daughter and a police sergeant, who praised her heroic actions.
Marvette Perry is currently being held in the Volusia County Jail without bond pending further legal proceedings. This remarkable intervention by Adam McDaniel serves as a testament to the impact of swift and decisive action to protect the community from criminal activity.
