Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman (D)’s stance on Israel earned him activist ire and a confrontation that resulted in a constituent walking out of an event.
Unlike radical members of Congress like Democratic Reps. Rashida Tlaib (Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (Minn.), whose sympathies have dubbed them part of the “Hamas Caucus,” the freshman senator remained unequivocal in its support for Israel since October 2009. 7 terrorist attack.
As a result, while Fetterman appeared at a fundraising event in support of Allegheny County Executive candidate Sara Innamorato, the senator was confronted by a former teacher who demanded to know why he hadn’t donated support for a “humanitarian ceasefire”.
Posted on his own social media, former University of Pittsburgh international human rights professor Daniel Kovalik could be seen frustratingly challenging the congressman while Queen music played in the background.
Captioning the confrontation, the activist wrote: “I just confronted @JohnFetterman about not supporting a cease fire for #Gaza and got assaulted. Come see the violence inherent in the system” .

As soon as Kovalik asked Fetterman, who remained mum throughout the short video taken near the entrance to Shorty’s Tap X Taco in West Homestead, Pa., an aide tried to answer the question that prompted the key constituent argued: “I can talk to – – I voted for him. Sorry, this is a democracy.”
The former professor went on to argue: “They’ve killed 10,000 people in Gaza, half of them children. The Pope is calling for a ceasefire, the UN has called for it. I’m just asking you, you’re a good guy, I voted, I know you’re a good guy. That’s important.”
Moments later, he tried to hand Fetterman a flyer only to be forcibly removed from the property by a man in the senator’s standard uniform of shorts and a Carhartt hoodie as the videographer said Kovalik had been assaulted to the sound of the Rolling Stones. .
A promotional flyer for the event listed suggested ticket prices ranging from $100 for a guest to $1,000 for an Innamorato sponsor, and the activist attorney later noted to X: “For true, I had a paid ticket to this event with @JohnFetterman. .”
By the way, I had a paid ticket to this event @JohnFetterman

Mint Press founder Mnar Adley, whose site editorially supports Syria, Russia and Iran, referred to Kovalik as a friend as she urged others to stand up to lawmakers against Israel’s right to defend himself and posted: “Imagine assaulting and dragging an international human rights lawyer to ask an elected official why he won’t call for a cease-fire in Gaza… All elected officials must face this way!

All elected officials should be confronted this way!

Although silent throughout the exchange, Fetterman’s position has been clearly stated and demonstrated repeatedly since October 7, and obviously struck a chord as protesters have positioned themselves outside their offices.

As before reportedwhile some had taken the opportunity to blame Israel for an explosion at a hospital in Gaza, the senator had called out those congressmen calling it “truly disturbing” that they “rushed to blame Israel for the hospital tragedy”.
He further said: “Now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire. We must support Israel in its efforts to eliminate Hamas terrorists who killed innocent men, women and children. Hamas does not want the peace, he wants to destroy Israel. We can talk about a ceasefire after Hamas is neutralized.”
Now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire. We must support Israel in its efforts to eliminate the Hamas terrorists who killed innocent men, women and children.
Hamas does not want peace, it wants to destroy Israel. We can talk about a ceasefire after the neutralization of Hamas.

Since then, Fetterman has also made it a point to display pamphlets of hostages taken by Hamas outside his office in Washington, DC, as he noted, “We will not stop sharing their stories until [they are safely returned home.]”
My office will show every last innocent Israeli kidnapped by Hamas until they return home.
We won’t stop sharing their stories until then. pic.twitter.com/1E7En9MAkD
