The union representing New York City firefighters applauded the development.

“On behalf of the firefighters of New York City, especially the survivors of the 9/11 terrorist attack who live with the illnesses and injuries inflicted on us that day, we are disgusted and disappointed that these three terrorists have They were given a deal and allowed to escape ultimate justice while three more FDNY heroes die each month from World Trade Center illnesses,” Andrew Ansbro, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association of the FDNY, in a statement.

“While we recognize the decision to avoid the death penalty, our primary concern remains access to these individuals for information,” the grassroots group's president, Brett Eagleson, was quoted as saying. Fox News.

“These plea deals should not perpetuate a system of closed-door deals, where crucial information is withheld without giving victims' families a chance to learn the whole truth,” Eagleson added.

According to the Washington Post:

According to Rugh's letter, the alleged conspirators are scheduled to enter their guilty pleas at hearings scheduled for next week or during the September and October sessions of the Military Commissions Convening Authority.

Declaration negotiations had been underway for more than two years, the letter states. The three men also agreed to “a process to answer questions presented” by victims' relatives “about their roles and motives in carrying out the September 11 attacks,” it added. He said the US government “took that opportunity away from us”, adding that the terrorists “committed the worst crime in the history of our country”. They should receive the highest penalty.”

Lawmakers and others also criticized the move, calling out the Biden administration directly.

“Something is very wrong with our justice system,” X owner Elon Musk posted.

“WTF!?? Kamala & Biden used the DOJ to target my father, while cutting plea deals with the terrorists behind 9/11,” Donald Trump Jr. posted.

“Any deal with the terrorists responsible for killing thousands of Americans, including so many of my constituents, is unacceptable,” wrote Rep. Nicole Malliotakis.

“The Biden-Harris administration has done the unthinkable: They have agreed to a deal with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the mastermind of the 9/11 attacks, and two of his accomplices,” said House Speaker Mike Johnson , in a post on X. “For more than two decades, the families of those killed by these terrorists have waited for justice. This deal is a slap in the face to these families. They deserved better from the Biden-Harris administration.”
