Father of suspected assassination attempt, FBI reveals family arsenal

Matthew Crooks, the father of Thomas Crooks, who tried to assassinate a former president, was seen in public for the first time since the incident. FBI Director Christopher Wray revealed that the Crooks family had more than a dozen firearms at their home in Pennsylvania. Matthew Crooks legally sold his son the gun used in the attempted murder.

The weapon in question was an AR-style rifle, legally purchased. It was revealed that Matthew Crooks sold the gun to his son after he had acquired it legally. This information was revealed on the same day Mary Crooks, Thomas' mother, was seen outside for the first time since the incident. Mary Crooks, who is blind, was helped by her husband as they walked back to their home in Bethel Park.

Thomas Crooks was described as a keen shooting enthusiast. In addition to the AR-15 and magazines for the rifle, a bulletproof vest and crude explosive devices that could be detonated remotely were found in his car after he was killed by a Secret Service sniper. The FBI is still looking for a manifesto or other leads that could determine Thomas Crooks' motive for the attack that injured two people and killed retired volunteer fire chief Corey Comperatore.

The FBI has conducted more than 400 interviews in its investigation into the shooting. While the FBI does not normally discuss ongoing investigations, Wray acknowledged the public interest in the case, describing the assassination attempt as an attack on democracy.

Matthew Crooks told reporters his family was not ready to comment on his son's actions. He said they would release a statement when advised by their attorney and asked for privacy while they navigate this difficult time.
