Fact-Check: Biden Lies to Americans with Giant Whopper in First 5 Minutes of Speech

On Wednesday, President Joe Biden delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress, and in the first five minutes of his speech he made a whopper of a lie. Biden claimed that “we’ve created 7 million jobs” since he took office in January.

Unfortunately for the president, that statement is simply not true. The truth is that the economy has added only 5.8 million jobs since Biden took office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That’s 1.2 million fewer jobs than the president claimed.

It’s not clear why Biden made this false statement. It could be that he was simply trying to make the point that his policies have been effective in creating jobs. However, the truth is that the job gains since he took office have been largely due to the economic recovery that began under the Trump administration.

It’s also possible that Biden was trying to downplay the fact that the economy has only recovered about two-thirds of the jobs that were lost during the pandemic. That’s still a significant achievement, but it’s a far cry from the 7 million jobs that Biden claimed.

No matter the reason, Biden’s false statement is a reminder that politicians, even the president, can sometimes make inaccurate claims. It’s important for the public to be aware of this and to do their own research to verify the accuracy of politicians’ statements. That way, we can ensure that our leaders are held accountable for their words and that we have an informed electorate.
