Experts sound the alarm over Bill Gates’ ‘global health AI’

-

A number of prominent experts have begun sounding the alarm about Bill Gates’ latest artificial intelligence (AI) “initiative” that is supposedly aimed at advancing “global health.”

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has invested millions of dollars in the vague scheme it says offers “health care delivery systems” to “improve the livelihoods” of citizens around the world.

However, Gates’ “AI initiative” is being scrutinized and criticized by several leading experts.

A trio of renowned academics have offered their take on Gates’ controversial push for AI to supposedly advance “global health”.

Researchers from the University of Vermont, the University of Oxford and the University of Cape Town have issued a strong rebuke of Gates’ plans.

“There are at least three reasons to believe that the unrestricted imposition of these tools on already fragile and fragmented health care delivery systems risks doing far more harm than good,” the researchers wrote in an editorial. published in the prestigious peer-reviewed British Medical Journal (BMJ).

This particular reaction was prompted by an announcement from Gates’ organization in early August.

At the time, the Gates Foundation revealed that it was investing $5 million to fund 48 AI-based projects for “health care.”

The projects are tasked with implementing AI large language models (LLMs) “in low- and middle-income countries to improve the livelihoods and well-being of communities globally.”

Yet the Gates Foundation often chooses to present itself as a “benefactor” of “low- and middle-income countries,” as Slay News has done. reported.

These “low- and middle-income countries” are often undeveloped nations in Africawith few resources to protect themselves from the negative impacts and risks of these experiments.

The practice has led to widespread criticism of Gates and his organization’s “experiments.”

While Gates continues to enjoy a free pass from the corporate media, renowned academics are beginning to sound the alarm about the true agenda of Gates, who is neither a doctor nor a scientist.

Writing in their paper published by BMJ, the group of international researchers asks the question: Is Bill Gates trying to “jump across global health inequalities?”

The Gates Foundation promises that AI projects will improve the lives and well-being of people around the world, particularly the poor or near-poverty.

However, scientists argue that the results of Gates’ AI-based “health care” projects will likely be very different from what his Foundation promises.

The study warns that Gates’ plans will likely end up “doing far more harm than good.”

The research then breaks it down to the very nature of “AI”, namely machine learning.

“If you feed biased or low-quality data into a machine that is supposed to ‘learn’, it reproduces, perhaps even worse than before,” the scientists explain.

So if we are to believe what many scholars and activists do, namely that “the world and its governing political economy are structurally racist,” what might be expected as a result of “AI” learning , of this particular huge data set?

The academics go on to warn that the scientific community should “oppose the reckless deployment of AI in global health”.

They point out that projects led by figures like Gates express an “almost total absence of real, democratic regulation and control, an issue that is applicable to global health more broadly.”

The researchers continue to warn that Gates and his Foundation also likely have a conflict of interest when it comes to AI technology.

Scientists conclude:

“At the end of the day, the hard and sharp edges of capital, command and control are in the hands of a few entities and individuals, most notably the Microsoft corporation itself, which has a conflict of interest, which has invested more than 10 billion USD in OpenAI”.
