Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza said Monday that one plausible reason for President Joe Biden's reluctance to take a cognitive test is that he and his team are afraid of the results.
Biden seemed to express his unwillingness to take a cognitive test during his interview with George Stephanopoulos of ABC News, stating that he undergoes “a cognitive test every day.” Cillizza said of his YouTube channel taking the test would benefit Biden politically if it proved he is mentally fit, but there is likely to be “fear” about what the test might show.

“I'm speaking from a political survival perspective, would it make sense for Joe Biden to take a cognitive test? 100% absolutely yes,” Cillizza said. “I think it would reassure people that nothing else is going on. It would help reinforce their 'it was a bad night' in terms of the debate argument. I think it would show people that he's open and transparent on a way i'll say donald trump hasn't been yes it seems he passed a cognitive test i don't know what that means but he passed that cognitive test montreal cognitive test.
“I really think Biden should do it. Now why won't he? Well, the kindest answer I could think of was he won't because he doesn't think he needs it,” he added. “The doctors say that he doesn't need it, and he just doesn't want that distraction. The less kind answer, and the one that would really worry me if I were a Democratic elected official or a Democratic voter, is that he's worried he might reveal something. That if he took a cognitive test, it might reveal that he has some kind of disease or condition that might cause people to reevaluate whether he should be running for president, right?
Biden has it confronted high profile calls withdraw from the presidential race from his debate with former President Donald Trump on June 27, during which Pres frozen and spoke in a hoarse voice.
“Now I don't know which one it is. Obviously they have a reason why they don't want to do it,” added Cillizza. “The simplest thing would honestly be for him to say, 'Look, I took a cognitive test, and here are the results.' Now again, that's great if the results pass and that's totally fine. It's much more problematic if the results are that he didn't pass or if he had questions, or they have to take more tests, right?”
“So I don't know which one it is. Honestly, I'm leaning out of fear of what I might find a test for and that's why they're not doing it. But I think if I announced, 'Yes, I'm doing this test,' or ” Yes, I did this test and that's what it showed,” especially if it showed that nothing was wrong, I would, a , it helps to get in bed to talk that there's some underlying condition here, that it's a deterioration caused by an illness rather than a bad night,” said the former CNN analyst. “And two, I think it would put the onus back on Trump.”
