Popular former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson has released a new video criticizing the media and vowing to continue his old “show” on Twitter, the only “big platform” that still allows free speech , he said.
On Tuesday afternoon, Carlson posted a video on Twitter with the message, “We’re back.” In the video, Carlson makes several claims about the current state of American media.
“At the most basic level, the news you consume is a lie,” Carlson said, though it’s also “true in a literal sense.” Carlson then gave a hypothetical example to illustrate his point. He claimed the media could say a suspect has been “wrongfully” arrested for armed robbery. However, if the media neglect to mention that the same suspect had previously been arrested for armed robbery on six other occasions, his recent “wrongful” arrest suddenly lacks context.
“Facts have been withheld on purpose,” he said, “along with proportion and perspective.
“You’re being manipulated,” Carlson said. He said the mainstream media almost constantly engages in this manipulation “on every story that matters, every day of the week, every week of the year.”
Carlson stated that all journalists working in the news business understand that there are limits to which truths can be told. Those who speak the truth in defiance of these industry-imposed boundaries will inevitably be fired. “That’s not an assumption, that’s guaranteed,” he said.
“The rule of what you can’t say” in the mainstream media, Carlson said, “defines everything. It’s dirty, really, and it’s totally corrupt.”
Carlson “agreed to part ways” with Fox News on April 24, Fox News said in a statement, though many have speculated that Carlson was blindsided by the ouster. Since then, the network’s ratings have reportedly dropped. Carlson has also announced a pending lawsuit against Fox News for breach of contract.
But fans of his old show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” can take heart. Carlson stated in the video that he intends to offer “a new version of the show that we’ve been doing for the last six and a half years.” He plans to offer that “new version” and some “other stuff” on Twitter, which he called “the last great platform” for free speech “remaining in the world.”
Carlson asserted that Twitter is important because “everyone has permission,” creating an environment “where our national conversation is incubated and developed.”
“Speech is the fundamental prerequisite for democracy,” Carlson said. “This is why the first of our constitutional amendments is enshrined.”
Carlson’s future Twitter videos are expected to extend beyond the limits imposed on mainstream media. “Freedom of speech is the most important right you have,” he said. “Without him, you have no others.
“See you soon,” he concluded.
