Alleged death threats landed a Florida woman behind bars after she allegedly targeted the US governor with an attempt at an “immediate in-person meeting.”

After staff notified the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was readied, prompting a Tuesday morning interview with Callaway of the Behavioral Resource Unit of the department.
“The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office will not tolerate any threats, especially from individuals who think they can hide behind their keyboards to spread fear and harm,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will not accept a threat against anyone in our community, especially our governor. Threatening the lives of those who serve our democratic institutions is an attack on the very principles of our society and justice system.”
“Although everyone is entitled to their own opinions, no one has the right to endanger the lives of others. This case is a stark reminder that violent threats will not be tolerated. We will continue to pursue and hold accountable anyone who seeks to disrupt the peace and safety of our community,” Chronister added.

After she allegedly admitted to HCSO deputies that she made the threats against the governor, Callaway was arrested, booked into the Orient Road Jail and charged with written or electronic threat to kill or do bodily harm .
According to a WTSP report, Callaway's record included previous charges of assault on public officials, and the sheriff's office further stated, “Callaway has previously made verbal threats against Governor Ron DeSantis and expressed strong views against government and law enforcement.”
Meanwhile, the governor's approach to law and order has included efforts to protect law enforcement officers from wrongful prosecution and reining in soft-on-crime policies that have hampered efforts to protect communities .
