Gov. Ron DeSantis has fought to revoke Disney’s ‘self-governing status’ at its Florida theme park
Former President Donald Trump said Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is “being absolutely destroyed” in his months-long battle with Disney, after the governor introduced a new bill that would give state officials more authority over the ‘the company’s huge Disney World theme park.
Trump took aim at DeSantis in a social media post on Tuesday, calling his feud with Disney “unnecessary” while condemning the governor’s new legislative effort as a “political stunt.”
“DeSanctus is being absolutely destroyed by Disney. His original PR plan failed, so now he’s coming back with a new one to save face,” he said, using a derogatory nickname for the governor.
The former leader predicted that Disney, one of the state’s largest employers, would cut investments in Florida “because of the governor,” and suggested that the company “may even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole.” . I will see!”

The prosecution of Donald Trump has propelled him back into the electoral game
Although DeSantis has not announced a presidential campaign in 2024, he is widely expected to run for the White House and is widely considered Trump’s main Republican challenger.
On Monday, DeSantis announced a bill that would rescind an agreement Disney made with state officials earlier this year that gave Disney free rein to develop the district that is home to its Walt Disney World theme park and resorts related. Although DeSantis previously named officials to head a new state board to oversee the district, the deal with Disney was completed before they began their duties, effectively bypassing the board to give the company all the powers to development
“They negotiated with themselves, to give themselves the ability to maintain their self-governing status. Now this is a direct challenge to the will of the people of Florida,” the governor told reporters Monday. “They thought they could create some kind of development agreement that would essentially render null and void everything we’ve been doing and they would put the control on them in perpetuity because of it. Well, that won’t work.”

DeSantis’ dispute with Disney began last year after the company publicly opposed his “Parental Rights in Education” bill, which would have banned certain public school teachers from classroom discussion or instruction related to sexual orientation or gender identity. Dubbing the act the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, Disney said it “should never have been signed into law” and vowed to fight for its repeal.
The governor argued that Disney’s statement “crossed the line” and criticized the company for working to “repeal substantive parental protections.” DeSantis has since sought to strip Disney of its broad authority over the district that hosts its theme park, and most recently requested an inspector general investigation into Disney’s development agreement with the state for possible criminal or civil violations.
