President Donald Trump focused on the importance of American agriculture while speaking in Iowa on Saturday, where he delivered remarks to an enthusiastic audience packed into Fort Dodge High School.
“Under my leadership, we will have a rebirth of loyalty to the American farmer starting at noon on Inauguration Day 2025,” he vowed.
He hammered Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., for his record on Iowa ethanol, reminding voters that he was a “raging opponent” of the industry. Trump, by contrast, stated that he would protect and support it.
Trump reminded Iowans that as president, he had brought in “$28 billion” for American farmers, which he took in from tariffs in China. He has also promised to implement the Trump Reciprocal Trade Act, which brings reciprocal tariffs on trade that the U.S. does business with.
Trump promised, “Unlike DeSanctus, I will be your ethanol champion for four more years in the White House.”
“Crooked Joe Biden is also waging a demented crusade to totally annihilate Iowa ethanol,” he warned.
Trump further scorched DeSantis, pointing out that he had helped the Florida governor win his initial election, noting that DeSantis’s presidential run was a sign of serious disloyalty. “He’s a disloyal guy,” he said.
He also added that because DeSantis’s denial that Trump had anything to do with his political career, “he’s got NO chance in [20]28.”
DeSantis is trailing distantly to Trump in the great state of Iowa ahead of the January 2024 caucuses. Trump is leading the field of GOP primary candidates with 43 percent of support in the Hawkeye State, according to Fabrizio, Lee & Associates.
