New York Attorney General Letitia James has done just that made public body camera footage related to an incident that resulted in the death of Taiquell Woodson on February 17, 2024.

The encounter, which includes members of the Suffolk County Police Department (SCPD) in Bay Shore, Suffolk County, has been investigated by James' office.

SCPD officers were reportedly responding to a disturbance at a residence on Udall Road in Bay Shore when they encountered Mr. Woodson.

As the officers approached, Woodson greeted them by brandishing a knife and a cane and cutting one of the officers with the knife.

A second officer tried to subdue Woodson with a taser, but he was eventually shot by a third officer.

Woodson did not survive and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

To improve transparency and foster public trust, the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) of the Attorney General's office has released body-worn camera footage captured by SCPD officers involved in the incident .

The only reason we haven't lost this officer is for their protective vest and training.
