Authorities in Mexico said a bus plunged off a cliff in the west of the country, killing at least 18 people and injuring more than 30, including nearly a dozen children, according to a report.

The Nayarit prosecutor’s office said Sunday evening that the bus fell about 50 feet down a ravine on Saturday night.

The incident took place in the Mexican state of Nayarit, near a road linking Tepic and Puerto Vallarta, a popular tourist destination, Reuters reported.

Nayarit’s Ministry of Security and Civil Protection released photographs showing rescuers removing victims from the wreckage.

Authorities identified the dead as 11 women and seven men. At least 11 minors were taken to area hospitals, according to the report.

In February, a bus accident in the central Mexican state of Puebla left 17 dead.

Fifteen of the 45 passengers were pronounced dead at the scene and two others died on the way to the hospital, authorities said.
