But Gaetz mocked his House colleagues just hours before Johnson’s ascension to the presidency.
The Florida congressman also celebrated Johnson’s nomination – and subsequent election – and stated that “MAGA is on the rise.”
“It’s going to be a great time for the Chamber,” Gaetz said Steve Bannon shortly before Johnson was sworn in as the next speaker of the House on Wednesday. “And you know what, in the end, when some people didn’t know if they could still go back to McCarthy, some of them left the room and didn’t vote.”

“And the swamp is fleeing, the MAGA is ascendant,” Gaetz continued. “If you don’t think that going from Kevin McCarthy to MAGA Mike Johnson shows the rise of this movement and where power really lies in the Republican Party, you’re not paying attention.”
The Florida Republican politician targeted some of his colleagues for “crying,” “wringing their hands” and “wetting the bed” over Johnson’s nomination and ascension to the House Speaker.
“But they’re crying and wringing their hands and wetting the bed on K Street,” Gaetz scoffed. “We have an honest and fair man who is about to take that position.”
“He’s going to do great things for this country.”
