Kamala Harris, candidate of the myth

The views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

Thus, Kamala Harris is the new Democratic presidential candidate.

And, we've been told, it is incredible

Not only useful, a middle-inning relief pitcher brought in when your starter suddenly implodes in the third inning. She is the Mariano Rivera of politics. She is off. She is charismatic, fascinating, quick on her feet, charming. She is, in the words of the legacy media, a historical candidate, not only because she is a black woman, a fact that explains her meteoric political rise, but only Democrats can mention, and then only in the context of explaining why America requires a black president, but because, apparently, she is good in that. Harris was apparently the candidate America needed all along. Like in a bad rom-com, all we had to do was take off the glasses, brush her hair, and put her in a better outfit, and she'd transform from weird high school nerd to prom queen.

The shift in the media's stance on Harris has been provocative. After all, in 2020 we were told he had run one of the worst campaigns in modern presidential history: mechanical, nasty, unpleasant, incompetent and arrogant. Then we were told she was one of the worst vice presidents in modern history: underachieving, running a completely dysfunctional office with extraordinary staff turnover rates, so unpopular that even a senile Joe Biden worried whether Harris could compete with donald trump

But now all is forgiven. All of their curiosities—coconut trees and electric school buses, Venn diagrams, and the importance of the passage of time—are delicious TikTok memes. His strangely incoherent word salads, topped off with copious amounts of conceit, are now a testament to his rhetorical brilliance. His wild hand movements, so reminiscent of a drunken tarmac operator trying unsuccessfully to guide a jumbo jet to the front door, are actually charming symptoms of his enthusiasm. And her positional dishonesty, the fact that she has now changed virtually every position she has held, is not evidence that she is a liar, but that she is shrewd and intelligent.

So what exactly happened to turn Kamala Harris from a deeply disliked politician (35% approval rating) to an Obama talent (44% approval rating)?

Joe Biden dropped out.

This is.

That's all.

When Biden dropped out, the legacy media was finally able to end the cognitive dissonance malaise they'd been suffering from since Biden's brain-dead debate with Trump. They had been forced by circumstances to do something they despise: objective journalism, in which Democrats are treated as normal characters under questioning. Since the rise of Barack Obama almost 20 years ago, the media has avoided this sort of thing. Biden's collapse on stage forced them to do some journalism, just to cover their asses; otherwise they would have been implicated in their health cover-up.

So they did.

But they didn't like it.

Now, Biden is gone. They can declare victory. And they can go back to swimming in the warm, urine-filled paddling pool of Democratic media coordination they enjoy so much. They have eaten their vegetables. Now it's time for dessert: a big serving of Kamala cake. And they will enjoy it.

The only question is whether the American people will fall for this rather obvious and burdensome routine. So far, some have. But presidential campaigns have a way of polishing off the lacquered varnish by the friendly media. After all, at one point the legacy media gave Hillary Clinton the same treatment. It didn't go well.

In the end, politicians tend to stand or fall on their own merits. Terrible news for Kamala Harris, as she has none.
