Jewish high schools demand ‘safety’ plan to protect students from ‘intolerable’ atmosphere on college campuses

Jewish high schools in New Jersey announced they would not allow colleges to come recruit students unless they had a safety plan in place in response to growing anti-Semitism, according to North Jersey.com, a local media outlet.

Universities in the United States have been hit with a wave of antisemitism following the terrorist attacks by Hamas against Israel on October 7. Bergen County Torah Academy, an all-boys school with 275 studentsissued a statement on October 27 explaining that they would now require universities to submit a safety plan for Jewish students on campus, seconds in the ad.

“We feel strongly that we cannot continue to invite university representatives to speak to our students as they have done in the past. Your child’s physical and emotional well-being is too important to us,” wrote Rabbi Joshua Kahn, school director. “Before university representatives can enter our building, they must bring a statement from their university leadership detailing their plans to protect and maintain the safety of our graduates on their campuses as Jews.”

Kahn called the current situation on college campuses “intolerable” and that the institute was taking note of statements made by schools and colleges that have not commented on the rise in hatred of Jews, according to the announcement He said he applauds the efforts of those who “have written to university presidents to express their shock and disappointment at their failure to fulfill their duty to ensure the safety of their Jewish students.”

CB Neugroschl, principal of Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls, emailed parents on Nov. 3, explaining that they were taking a similar approach, noting that she hoped “our position may encourage the universities to address the gravity of the current situation more adequately”, seconds at North Jersey.com.

“How can we promote colleges and universities that do not actively and adequately protect our students and our values?” Neugroschl said in a statement.

In addition, Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School is also considering the same requirements for colleges, saying school officials had been “re-evaluating their relationships with college admissions officers” in light of the rise of anti-Semitism on college campuses, according to North Jersey.com. Eliezer Rubin, head of Rae Kushner, said, “We have watched in horror as students across the country are threatened.”

The White House announced on October 30 that he was coordinating efforts with the Department of Justice, Homeland Security and the Department of Education to fight anti-Semitism at universities and that the “grotesque feelings and actions” of some students and professors at the latter weeks “shock the conscience and turn the stomach.”

Torah Academy, Ma’ayanot Yeshiva High School and Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
