Google's upcoming Pixel 9 smartphones, which will launch next month, are expected to get a significant upgrade in the form of an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. This new feature is expected to improve the responsiveness and accuracy of the biometric sensor in the new phones, addressing issues that users have faced with previous models. Older Pixel devices used an optical sensor, which was often criticized for its limited 2D scanning and occasional lack of responsiveness.

The ultrasonic sensor, on the other hand, promises a safer and more accurate reading of fingerprints, even in conditions where the screen or finger is wet. This change is expected to significantly improve the user experience, providing more security and convenience when unlocking the device.

But the fingerprint reader isn't the only upgrade Google is planning for the Pixel 9 series. Reports suggest an improved display with dual-stack technology is also in the works. This technology could provide the Pixel 9 with a brighter screen, longer lifespan and reduced power consumption, further improving the user experience.

In addition to these updates, recent videos have revealed a new deep pink color variant of the Pixel 9. The videos show the redesigned camera bar, which no longer stretches the entire length of the phone's rear casing like seen in previous models. Instead, it stops short of edges with wide rounded corners, matching leaked renders from earlier this year. The camera bar, reminiscent of last year's Pixel Fold design, features dual lenses and an LED flash. The larger Pixel 9 Pro is expected to have three lenses, including a x5 telephoto lens with periscope zoom.

Google is set to unveil all three Pixel 9 phones, along with the next generation of Google AI, at a launch event on August 9.
