I really believe there are agencies actively looking for houses that haven’t seen movement for 30 days so they can help squatters move in.

A couple of years ago, a neighbor from South America brought her entire family “home” for a 2-month family reunion. He asked me to keep an eye on his house. About 40 days later, I stopped by her house and noticed a middle-aged black woman, many of these thin braids that later became a larger braid around her head. She had professional clothes, 4-door sedan and a large clipboard in one hand and a tablet in the other hand, sitting in front of the house. I slowly walked past and then went around the block to look, staying behind her so she wouldn’t notice. He got out of the car and looked around the house and property without going through them. He wrote stuff and then left.

The next day, an Indian parked in front of the house. Not on the driveway. Something didn’t feel right, so I walked into the entryway and up the stairs to the front door. I looked at the boy and he was looking at me. Within seconds, he was on the phone. As soon as he looked away, I jumped into the bushes to the right of the stairs and caught myself. I could see him, but he couldn’t see me. So when he looked up again, I was no longer at the door and my car was still in the driveway. I pretended to be let in. He got out of the car yelling to whoever was on the other end of that phone call. He asked if the address was correct, they were sure no one was in the house, then he started yelling that he couldn’t understand him because of his accent. As I screamed, my back was turned to the house, so I jumped onto the porch and had one hand on the door handle and the other saying goodbye. He turned to see me doing it as he waved me goodbye. He left there so upset.
