Darren Beattie – Sympathetic Media Portrayal of Ray Epps

Darren Beattie, a former speechwriter for President Donald Trump, has been making headlines lately due to his involvement in the events leading up to the January 6th uprising. Beattie had been invited to speak at a conference alongside other notorious figures, including Ray Epps, a veteran of the January 6th crowd.

Epps, who was seen on video encouraging rioters to enter the Capitol and disrupt the electoral college certification, has been a subject of intense scrutiny by law enforcement officials and the media. While many label him as a key player in the insurrection, a growing number of right-wing media outlets are attempting to paint him as a sympathetic figure and a possible informant for the government.

The portrayal of Epps in these fringe media outlets has been met with criticism, with many viewing it as an attempt to shift the blame from those who actively participated in the insurrection, to someone who was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Despite this, it appears that these attempts to turn Epps into a victim are beginning to gain traction, especially among those who subscribe to the same beliefs and ideologies as the January 6th mob.

Interestingly enough, it seems that Beattie is now similarly trying to make himself out to be a victim in this narrative of the Capitol riot. In a recent interview with Right Wing Watch, Beattie claims that he has been unfairly “tarred and feathered” in the media for his involvement, saying that he is simply a victim of “guilt by association”.

However, it’s important to note that Beattie attended a conference with known extremists, one of whom (Epps) is now being investigated for his role in the insurrection. While it’s true that Beattie didn’t participate in the Capitol breach, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that he willingly associated himself with individuals who are now under investigation by the FBI.

Overall, it’s clear that the sympathetic portrayal of Ray Epps in right-wing media is a coordinated attempt to discredit the investigation into the January 6th uprising. By painting Epps as a victim and informant, these media outlets are attempting to deflect attention away from the role that other key figures, including former President Donald Trump, played in inciting the events of that day.

As for Darren Beattie, while it’s possible that he himself may not have taken part in the Capitol breach, his association with individuals like Epps leaves him open to criticism and suspicion. Rather than trying to play the victim, Beattie should focus on cooperating with law enforcement officials and providing any information he may have regarding the events of January 6th.
