President Trump issued a statement condemning Joe Biden’s decision to pay $6 billion to the Iranian government in exchange for hostages.

He said in a video statement Thursday, “This is yet another Biden surrender and a further blistering humiliation of the United States of America to the World Stage.”

He compared it to when President Barack Obama paid $400 million to Iran to release jailed Americans in 2016, per the Washington Times.

Obama reportedly airlifted the money in secret while Iran was releasing four Americans from jail. This was considered a ransom payment and became highly criticized once discovered.

Now, Biden’s decision to allow Iran to receive $6 billion as a hostage release tactic conflicts with the well-known American philosophy that “The United States does not negotiate with terrorists.”

Biden is unfreezing the $6 billion in order to “bribe” Iran, according to the Washington Examiner. The Iranian government is heralding the decision as “honorable diplomacy” despite funding the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

This militant group aligns with the Muslim Brotherhood and seeks to upset peace between Israel and Palestine with the main goal of destroying Israel entirely, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.

In addition, President Trump noted, “Tragically Biden’s ransom payments also make it dramatically more likely that even more Americans will be held captive in the future because Biden has shown that he will pay gargantuan sums of money.”

“Biden has put a bounty on the head of every American citizen abroad,” he added. 

President Trump then cited his successes in bringing home over 50 hostages through “strength” and “diplomacy” without rewarding terrorists.
