Israel-Hezbollah conflict heats up; Blinken says Gaza will not be reoccupied; Tlaib censored for anti-Semitic rhetoric

Israel has released a video of an attack on what it calls a Hezbollah “terrorist target”. The Israeli Air Force says the attack happened overnight and shows a fireball emerging after an airstrike. Lebanon-based Hezbollah has engaged in border skirmishes with Israeli forces as military activity heats up against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

In other news, Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the US believes there should be “no reoccupation of Gaza” after the Israel-Hamas war, even as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggests his country will likely control the territory’s security for an “indefinite period”. Speaking after a Group of Seven meeting in Tokyo, Blinken said the only way to ensure this crisis never happens again is to start laying the conditions for lasting peace and security.

And finally, the House of Representatives has voted to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Democrat of Michigan, for her support of anti-Semitic rhetoric. Tlaib shared a video on social media that included the phrase “From the river to the sea,” a pro-Palestinian slogan used by Hamas that implies the destruction of Israel. The vote was 222-209, with all Democrats except Tlaib voting for censure.
