
I don’t think the average person, perhaps especially those with above-average technical sophistication, really understands how deep AI will revolutionize our social spaces.
You can no longer trust anything you see on the internet. I know people will say this has always been true, but it hasn’t been. If you watched a music video, you knew that the artist you were watching was at least involved in making it. If you were interacting with a person on a forum like this, you could basically tell they were a real human being as long as their answers weren’t too simplistic. Maybe a jerk or a fool, but a human.
That’s all gone now, or will be in a few months. We’re fast approaching a point where you’ll have to assume literally everything you see on the internet is fake.
Why would anyone continue to interact with these systems at that time? Perhaps a better question: what does it say about humanity if we continue to interact with them, knowing that we can no longer discern real from fake?
