A social media spat between billionaires escalated as accusations of being a “racist” and a “liar” were hurled at DEI.
On Monday, former Mavericks owner Mark Cuban's sympathetic attempt to frame himself as “a nice guy” landed on a rake when tech entrepreneur Elon Musk issued his own forceful rebuttal on his ongoing argument about diversity, equity and inclusion practices. Notably, the renewed argument came when X's owner reacted to a story about United Airlines' training academy, the United Aviate Academy, looking at 50% “women and/or people of color” enrollment.
“The airline industry can't find enough qualified pilots even without DEI's insane requirements!” the SpaceX CEO explained in reaction to a post that quoted Cuban as saying, “DEI doesn't mean you [don’t] hire on merit. Of course, hire on merit.”

In response, the “Shark Tank” celebrity tried to take the high ground by sharing a link to the academy and stating, “This is a training school. Once they graduate, it's a multi-year process to have an OPPORTUNITY to fly United… Because I'm a nice guy and want you to be fully informed, I'll share with you the benefit of the 60 seconds I spent researching how the program works. [By the way]it seems like several layers of merit-based evaluations before they can fly United.”
“You're a liar,” Musk shot back shortly.

The rebuttal wasn't the world's richest man's only response, as he previously shared a post from The Rabbit Hole that highlighted Cuban claiming on Monday: “It's a for-profit school. If they want mainly cafeterias purple people from Mars, it's their choice.”
This prompted Musk to say, “Mark Cuban is a racist.”

Later, after adding the title “(CTO) Chief Troll Officer” to his account bio, the Tesla co-founder backed up his claim by sharing a 2014 video of Cuban explaining how he saw a black boy in a hoodie. on the same side of the street as him at night, he used to cross to the other side to avoid them, “I know I have prejudices. I know I'm a bigot in a lot of different ways.”
“This,” Musk declared, “explains Mark Cuban's ridiculous overcompensation when it comes to racism. The same thing happened with the #MeToo guys who suddenly became ardent fake feminists.”

The debate had picked up where the duo had left off the previous week when Cuban had hit back at Musk by saying, “Racial discrimination, which DEI does, is literally the definition of racism.”
After the virtue-signaling businessman had finished “awakening” Marxist ideology, Musk responded, “Okay, when should we expect to see a short white/Asian woman in the Mavs?”

He returned to that Monday arguing, “The only way to prove he's not racist AND sexist is to put an Asian woman and a white woman on his basketball team!”

As the self-described free speech absolutist toyed with the Cuban, the Wall Street Silver account reacted to the video of self-proclaimed bigotry, saying: “It's sad to see how people are forced into these fight sessions. He looks like a hostage to the awakened crowd, just trying to avoid becoming a target.”
