Elon Musk asks if he should poll if to #BanTheADL, Israeli government condemns ‘ugly label campaign’

Twitter/X owner Elon Musk asked his followers on Saturday if he should take a poll on whether to #BanTheADL and the Israeli government came out to condemn the “ugly hashtag campaign.”

Both the Israeli government and the ADL itself issued statements characterizing all ADL opponents as “white supremacists,” “anti-Semites,” “conspiracy theorists,” “hate groups,” and “trolls.”

From Haaretz, “Elon Musk Pushes Far-Right Anti-Semitism as #BanTheADL Trends Worldwide in X”:

The Israeli government, which had defended Musk amid his attacks on Soros earlier this year, spoke out against emerging anti-Semitic rhetoric sparked by the hashtag.

“There are countless posts of Jew-hating caricatures, stereotypes and conspiracy theories about how Jews have ‘enslaved’ the world,” said David Saranga, director of the Foreign Office’s digital diplomacy office.

“It’s an ugly hashtag campaign targeting the ADL, which is being pushed by white supremacists and is currently trending on Twitter/X,” he added, in a post shared by the official account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ADL shared the following statement with Mashable:

“ADL is not surprised but undaunted that anti-Semites, white supremacists, conspiracy theorists and other trolls have launched a coordinated attack on our organization. This kind of thing is nothing new.

This attack comes after our participation in the 60th anniversary of the March on Washington, where ADL proudly marched shoulder to shoulder with African American leaders and those from other minority communities. It also follows a meeting with the management of X, formerly known as Twitter, which clearly upset these hate groups.

Such insidious efforts do not faze us. Instead, they drive us to be unwavering in our commitment to fight hate in all its forms and ensure the safety of Jewish communities and other marginalized groups.”

Last year, Musk polled whether there should be a “blanket amnesty” for Twitter users banned under the previous regime and half followed by unbanning many, but not nearly all, of the suspended.

X sued the defamation outfit known as the “Center to Fight Digital Hate” earlier this year for “embarked on a scare campaign to drive advertisers away from the platform.”
