Elon Musk applauds Conor McGregor as Irish presidential candidate: 'Take them all with one hand'

-

The world's richest man got behind a “notorious” potential Irish presidential candidate with a public vote of confidence: “I think you could take them all on your own”.

“Not even fair.”

Populism versus globalism has been the story of the tape in recent elections, as the leaders of Argentina, Hungary and the Netherlands have made waves against those seeking to “build back better.” Amid the unrest on the Emerald Isle and the active suppression of freedoms, MMA fighter Conor McGregor's taunt to enter politics found support from billionaire tech entrepreneur Elon Musk.

On Monday, the former UFC champion took note of his competition, “if I run”, positioning himself as the voice of Ireland rather than a pawn in a party.

In direct response, Musk posted X hours later: “I think you could take them all by yourself. Not even fair.”

The campaigner had called out opposition leaders Gerry Adams, Bertie Ahern and Enda Kenny by name in his message as he wrote: “Potential competition if I run. Gerry, 78. Bertie. 75. Enda, 74. Each with unbreakable bonds with the politics of their individual parties”.

Each spent decades in their respective roles. Adams served as president of the radical socialist party Sinn Féin for 35 years until 2018, as well as serving in Ireland's bicameral parliament, the Oireachtas.

Ahern served as Prime Minister from 1997 to 2008 and Member of Parliament from 1977 to 2011, while Kenny spent his long career as leader of the progressive Liberal party Fine Gael.

“Regardless of what the public feels outside their matches. These parties rule themselves vs rule the people,” McGregor argued before presenting himself as the alternative. “Or me, 35. Young, active, passionate, fresh skin in the game. I listen. I support. I fit in. I have no affiliation/bias/favoritism towards any party. They will really be held to account for their current influence on public sentiment.I would even put it all to a vote. There would be votes every week to ensure -us. I can finance. It wouldn't be me in power as president, people of Ireland. It would be me and you.”

After getting Musk's vote of confidence, the fighter-turned-entrepreneur and rising political figure expressed his gratitude and laid out what it would take to even get to a vote. “I'd like my chances Elon, 100%. It would need to be nominated by: at least 20 members of the Oireachtas; or at least four local authorities (aka county councils) to run.”

McGregor's open disdain for leadership in his homeland peaked recently after an Algerian immigrant was named as the suspect responsible for stabbing a woman and several children near a Dublin school. His commentary with messages such as “Make a change or make way” as the riots broke out led to the opening of a research for the alleged “hate speech” line.

As with other nations where the public was fed up with leaders saying one thing, doing another and hiding their actions from those they represent, the fighter spoke of the need for transparency, the end of politics for the sake of power and the use of the fund for what the public really needed.

“That's why I would run, if I did. To be the voice of the people who deserve to be heard,” he said, addressing Musk. The President of Ireland is a unique position for other countries, but it would demand answers to questions. The dialect would suit us very well in public. Our people feel ignored. unheard of Of course, until election time. Then the waffle begins. Hope all goes well bro, congrats on the app and rebrand to X, it's flying like those rockets!”

In response, the billionaire, who took the reins of what was Twitter on a promise to be a “free speech absolutist,” agreed on the importance of “clarity and transparency” and added his hope let McGregor at least be nominated: “That would rock. stuff on!”

The day before, McGregor had teased what a victory could look like as he shared a picture of himself with the caption: “Ireland, your president”.
