Doocy slams Kirby over damning report accusing UN agency members of helping Hamas

-

Fox News' Peter Doocy and National Security Council spokesman John Kirby discussed a new report on the UN on Friday.

According to the report, a dozen employees of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) have been accused of participating in the October 7 Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.

As a result, UNRWA has “cut ties” with the employees and opened an investigation. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has finally ground to a halt its funding to UNRWAbetter late than never

During a White House press conference on Friday, Doocy asked Kirby if he had changed his mind about something he had previously said, which was that the administration cannot hold UNRWA “accountable for the depredations of Hamas.”

Kirby, meanwhile, predictably rushed to the globalist body's defense.

Listen:

“It certainly seems as though, Peter, and again, there's an ongoing investigation, so I'll be careful, but it certainly seems like there's cause for concern about the actions of some of the UNRWA members, the UN. Works and Relief Agency,” Kirby replied.

“But that doesn't, and shouldn't, impugn the whole agency and all the work they're doing. They've helped save literally thousands of lives in Gaza. They're doing important work. It doesn't mean there aren't people in this group should be punished for possibly this type of behavior, but this does not impugn the entire organization,” he added.

At the time, Doocy said the allegations against the agency that Kirby was defending were bad.

“That's bad, but if there are 12 people accused…” he said before being cut off by Kirby.

“It's bad! It's bad if there is!” the State Department spokesman said.

“And the US gives them money. How much money?” Doocy backed away quickly.

Kirby then reminded Doocy that the administration has stopped funding UNRWA, to which the Fox News correspondent responded by asking how much the US agency had previously been receiving.

“I don't have the dollar figures here, Peter. … I'll take the question and get back to you. But we've suspended unassigned funds pending the outcome of the investigation,” Kirby said.

It was at this point that Doocy decided to combine issues by bringing up the crisis along the US southern border.

“Who does this White House vet do?” he asked. “Because we know that people coming across the southern border are not screened. Now we know that people receiving hundreds of millions of dollars of US money are not being screened. So who are you looking at?”

Excellent question. The answer, as far as anyone can tell, is no one. But that, of course, isn't the answer Kirby coughed up.

“It's not like we don't have a process at the border,” he said. “And there is a challenge. And the president does want to get more Border Patrol agents. But this idea that there's simply no vetting and no proper immigration enforcement at the border just doesn't fit the reality.”

“There is, a lot of work has to be done to improve it. But that's it, put that aside, because this has nothing to do and you know it has nothing to do with UNRWA,” he added.

Doocy was not satisfied with this answer.

“[U]until today, the policy of the US then has been 'we do not negotiate with terrorists, but we will give them hundreds of millions of dollars'”, he rightly pointed out.

Kirby did not like this otherwise accurate description.

“Come on, this is mixing in here,” he moaned. “That's not, that's like saying the whole of UNRWA is a terrorist organization. You know, who is a terrorist organization? Hamas, not UNRWA.”

“Now, if they have, if the investigation shows that in this case, I think a dozen employees were helping Hamas and even, even, maybe, you know, involved in the hostage-taking , then, absolutely, they must be arrested. held accountable,” he added.

But critics have long accused UNRWA of being a genuine terrorist organization, even before the October 7 terrorist attack. In fact, that's why the Trump administration stopped funding the group.

“[The] The organization's employees and classes have repeatedly promoted anti-Semitism and glorified terrorism despite management's commitments to stop such activities,” he explained. The Heritage Foundation. “For these and other reasons, the Trump administration announced in 2018 that the US would 'make no additional contributions to UNRWA.'”
