Former Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has unveiled a new line of limited-edition Bitcoin-themed sneakers following his pro-crypto speech at the Bitcoin 2024 conference. Trump announced the release of the sneakers at Truth Social, encouraging its followers to buy the unique footwear with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies.
Priced at $499, the sneaker is high-top and comes in a vibrant “Bitcoin Orange” colorway. Only 1,000 pairs of these limited edition sneakers are available, each numbered for authenticity. Five pairs will also include a random autograph from Trump himself. The shoes were created to commemorate the first appearance of a US President at the Bitcoin Conference. Customers can expect their orders to ship between September and November of this year.
In addition to the Bitcoin-themed sneakers, there are 1,000 pairs of similarly styled black shoes available for $299 a pair.
Trump's foray into the world of crypto-themed merchandise follows his recent embrace of cryptocurrencies during his election campaign. He has expressed his intention to review US crypto policies if elected, including a proposal to establish a “strategic Bitcoin reserve”. Trump has also promised to convert all the bitcoins seized from the Silk Road operation into this reserve and has advocated that the United States retain its Bitcoin holdings.
This latest venture into Bitcoin-themed merchandise is seen as another appeal to crypto enthusiasts, which has previously accepted political donations in crypto and launched collections of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
