Press release:

“Therefore, in light of recent research and revelations of the harmful approach advocated by WPATH and its supporters in the United States, we, the undersigned, appeal to the professional medical organizations of the United States, including the 'American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, the Pediatric Endocrine Society, the American Medical Association, the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry to follow the science and their European professional colleagues and stop immediately the promotion of social affirmation, puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and surgeries for children and adolescents experiencing distress about their biological sex. Instead, these organizations should recommend comprehensive assessments and therapies aimed at identifying and addressing the underlying psychological comorbidities and neurodiversity that often predispose to and accompany gender dysphoria. We also encourage physicians who are members of these professional organizations to contact their leadership and urge them to adhere to the evidence-based research available now.” – Doctors Protecting Children

Jill Simons, executive director of the American College of Pediatricians (ACPeds), said EWTN News Evening anchor Tracy Sabol that the medical community has been “sounding the alarm” after leaked files from the World Transgender Health Professional Association revealed that children undergoing transgender procedures are too young to give informed consent. In addition, the Cass Review in England found no comprehensive evidence to support the routine prescribing of transgender drugs to minors.

Both the WPATH Files (242 pages) and Cass Review (388 pages) can be found in full at the end of this article.

Those revelations “were overwhelming evidence that these gender-affirming care treatments should not continue,” Simons said. “We thought our colleagues here in the US would take heed and do the same and put a pause, but they have continued. We came together as a coalition of doctors and organizations and said, 'Enough.'

The statement has been co-signed by eighteen medical and health policy organizations, including the Catholic Medical Association (CMA) and nearly 100 physicians and health leaders. He claims that sex is an “innate trait” unaltered by drugs or surgery and criticizes gender ideology for not being based in biological reality. The statement emphasizes that medical decisions must “respect the biological reality and dignity of the person.”

CMA Executive Director Mario Dickerson emphasized the importance of protecting children. “At the heart of this is protecting children. That's first and foremost. There's a study that [transgenderism] it affects 1% of children in the United States. [There are] 72 million kids in America, so that's 720,000 kids… We're really advocating that the kids are the main reason.”

Dickerson noted that 16% of US hospitals are Catholic and encouraged them to sign the statement. “We would certainly encourage them to sign this statement and reassure their patients that they are on the side of doing no harm to their children and making a public statement. If Catholic hospitals and health systems signed this document, I think it would have an impact enormous in health care in general in the United States.”

Doctors also highlighted the developmental immaturity of the adolescent brain, which makes responsible informed consent impossible. The statement underscores the serious long-term risks associated with social transition, puberty blockers, and hormonal or surgical interventions, including potential sterility. She advocates for psychotherapy as the first line of treatment to address underlying mental health issues such as autism, anxiety, emotional trauma, and depression.

In a first major crackdown on sex-reassignment operations on children, the statement calls on prominent US medical institutions, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association, to follow the science and its colleagues European leagues stopping the promotion of these treatments for minors. .

“As physicians, along with nurses, psychotherapists, behavioral health physicians, other health professionals, scientists, researchers, and public health and policy professionals, we have serious concerns about the physical and mental health effects of current protocols promoted for childcare. and adolescents in the United States who express discomfort with their biological sex,” the document states.

The statement emphasizes that sex is a dimorphic, innate trait defined by an organism's biological role in reproduction, determined at fertilization by the X and Y chromosomes, and unaltered by drugs or surgery. She criticizes gender ideology for misrepresenting these biological realities and for promoting interventions that can harm healthy bodies.

The paper calls for comprehensive assessments and therapies aimed at identifying and addressing underlying psychological conditions rather than affirming gender dysphoria through medical interventions.
