Disney World introduces new Lightning Lane rides, replacing Genie+

-

Disney World is introducing changes to its ride reservation system, replacing its Genie+ service and Lightning Lane Single Entry Pass with two new programs: Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass. These changes will take effect from July 24. The new system allows guests to make travel reservations in advance of their trip, and guests staying at Disney Resort hotels and other select hotels have the advantage of planning Lightning Lane passes up to seven days in advance for your trip the whole stay All other guests can plan up to three days in advance.

The new passes are expected to bring more clarity to guests, but they also have a problem. Pricing for multiple Lightning Lane passes will vary by day and theme park, while individual Lightning Lane passes will vary by date and attraction. That change could encourage guests to spend more at Disney's Florida properties, which will expand under a $17 billion development deal with the local tourism district.

However, the cost of Disney theme parks has been a point of contention for some guests, with some families even going into debt to finance their Disney vacation. The high costs of food, transportation and lodging have been cited as major budget concerns.

The previous Genie+ system was criticized for its complexity and the requirement that guests wake up at 7am each day of the trip to secure their spot. In response to feedback, Disney has developed Lightning Lane Passes, with the goal of offering a more comprehensive reservation program that allows guests to do more planning ahead of their theme park day.
